“Since his Master graduation, I have seen Paolo Gorini develop as a strong power in the interpretation and creation of new music, in- and outside The Netherlands. He is very present in concert life, and his performances are strong and always fully dedicated to his chosen repertoire.” Arnold Marinissen Head of New Music, Conservatorium van Amsterdam

Biography

Paolo Gorini met the music with Chopin’s Ballade op. 23, which he heard from his parent's stereo when he was 9. This intense and inebriating epiphany propelled Paolo to study piano; he has never stopped playing since then.

He studied with Mario Boselli, Andrea Rebaudengo, Paolo Bordoni, Emanuela Piemonti, Frank Peters and Ralph van Raat at the "Luca Marenzio" Conservatoire in Brescia and the "Giuseppe Verdi" Conservatoire in Milan. He later enrolled in the Master's programme in New Music at the "Conservatorium van Amsterdam" in The Netherlands.

His first public performance in The Netherlands was with the CvA Score Collective Ensemble in the Kleinezaal of the Concertgebouw.

He frequently collaborated with the Sentieri Selvaggi ensemble. In 2017 he became the official pianist of the Nieuw Ensemble. With them, he premiered “Lost connections” by Georges Aperghis at the Acht Brücken Festival in Cologne.

His vast repertoire includes Olivier Messiaen's “Quatour pour la fin du temps” (TAQA Theater de Vest - NL, Algarve Music Serie - PT), Bruno Maderna's “Concerto for two pianos and instruments” (Milano Musica Festival) and Elliott Carter's “Double Concerto” (Orgelpark - NL).

Thanks to Mauro Montalbetti’s guidance, he then tried his hand at composition. The rhythms of progressive rock and artists such as Radiohead and Fausto Romitelli are a continuous source of inspiration, as are the worlds of sound design and electronic music.

His first commission was in 2015 with an orchestral work for the orchestra "I Pomeriggi Musicali".

PRISMI (2020-2023), published in 2023 by Limen Music, is his latest solo work in his dual role as pianist and composer. The project marks his first experimentation with electronics with a multi-keyboard set-up that will develop into Night (e)scape, in collaboration with soprano Elisabeth Hetherington, presented at festivals such as Oranjewoud and November Music.

Chamber music has a special place in his artistic career. The first award with his Duo Ebano came in 2017 with the Storioni Toonzaal Prize and later with the first prize ex-aequo at the Salieri-Zinetti Chamber Music Competition.

The duo participated in Dutch Classical Talent, a tour of 12 concerts in the leading Dutch concert halls.

He has performed at various festivals and in important venues such as the Teatro Grande in Brescia, Festival Milano Musica, AI arts festival in Winchester (GB), Gaudeamus (NL), and Tivoli Vredenburg Utrecht (NL). He has given concerts at the Sunday Sound Festival at the Muziekgebouw in Amsterdam (NL) and the Appia Antica Chamber Music Festival in Rome, demonstrating his versatility and talent in combining classical music with modern and innovative arrangements.

Paolo’s diverse musical activity follows an essential thread that is his grandfather's legacy: "To make music, you need the three 'P's: passion, patience and perseverance”.
