Duo Alambic

DUO ALAMBIC was born from the collaboration between the classes of M° Hans Maier and M° Mario De Secondi at the ‘Staatliche Hochschule für Musik, Trossingen’ in 2012. From the beginning it has been characterised by a concert activity aimed at proposing a repertoire that ranges from baroque to contemporary music.
The particular timbre of the ensemble lies in the combination of two apparently distant instruments: the cello and the accordion. The result is a rich and malleable sound combination, capable of exploring both original and ancient repertoire.

The duo regularly collaborates with composers from the contemporary music scene and, thanks to their fortunate encounter with Gianluca Castelli, in 2015 they created Alambic, the first piece dedicated to the group and which gives the duo its name. (Premiere: Festival Contrasti; May 2015, Trento).

The artistic merits of this chamber music group have been recognised not only in international competitions, including 1st prize at ‘The World of Accordion in Castelfidardo 2013’, 2nd prize at the ‘Concorso Internazionale di Musica Stresa 2018’ and 3rd prize at the ‘Premio Crescendo di Firenze 2018’, but in particular thanks to their concerts at important festivals such as Bel Circolo Bellunese (IT), Mendrisio Music Festival (CH), Festival Contrasti (IT), Musica al Tempio Festival (IT).

In 2019, the Shanghai International Culture & Arts Institute promoted the Duo Alambic's first Chinese tour at theatres such as the Grand Theatre Ningbo, Kungmin Teather, Concert Hall Harbin, Development Area Grand Theatre Dalian and Concert Hall Yangzhou.

Among the radio appearances, we remember the programme dedicated to the activity of Duo Alambic for ‘Rai Slovenia’ in 2017.

In March 2022, CONTINUUM was released, a recording dedicated to the Three-Part Sonatas by J.S. Bach, produced and distributed by Da Vinci Publishing.
