KUBIN

Biography

In 2016, Elena Talarico and Francesco Zago founded KUBIN, a duo dedicated to contemporary and 20th-century music. The name is inspired by the Austrian artist and writer Alfred Kubin, author of the visionary Die andere Seite. Originally a piano and electric guitar duo, the duo also performs four-hand piano pieces and works for two pianos.

Their repertoire includes Bach/Kurtág, George Crumb, Frederic Rzewski, Erkki-Sven Tüür, Bill Whitley, Fazil Say, Arvo Pärt, György Ligeti, John Adams, Olivier Messiaen, John Luther Adams, Henri Dutilleux, Igor Stravinksij, and Dmitri Shostakovich, among others.

In 2019, KUBIN released the CD The Other Side on the Da Vinci Classics label, featuring original compositions for electric guitar and piano, including some commissioned for the occasion.

KUBIN has performed at Teatro Linguaggi Creativi (Milan), Teatro Sociale di Como, Villa Litta di Lainate, Masada (Milan), Duomo di Salerno (Irnofestival), Chiesa di Santa Chiara (Associazione Domenico Scarlatti, Naples), and Studio Salotto in Prova (Milan).
