Biography
His works have been performed in numerous Festivals and venues of International importance such as Citè Internationale Universitaire Paris, Théatre Des Lisières and Italian Cultural Institute in Strasbourg, Festival ‘Oggi Musica’ and Art Museum in Lugano, Chartreuse de Villeneuve-lez-Avignon, Festival POTE in Besançon, France, Centro para la Difusión de la Música Contemporánea in Madrid, blurred edges 2016 – Festival für aktuelle Musik Hamburg, 47th Cantiere Internazionale d'Arte di Montepulciano, Festival ‘MILANO MUSICA’, Alba Music Festival, Festival ‘NUOVA CONSONANZA’ Rome, Festival MUSICAHORA La Serena (Chile), Auditorium ‘Fabio Lozano’ and ‘CICLO NOVA 2023’ Bogota (Colombia), Mzansi Ballet & Ticino Sound - Rhythm of Two Souths FESTIVAL, Lugano (CH). New York - Guggenheim Museum, Abrons Arts Centre and Jack Space in Brooklyn - In China - Electronic Music Week in Shanghai 2011 and 6th Chamber Music Festival in Beijing. Romania, Bolivia and Peru, with performers such as Carlo Boccadoro, Hélène Pereira, Mario Caroli, Françoise Kubler, Zorina Valeria, Jeff Silberschlag, Szuhwa Wu, Romanian State Philharmonic Orchestra, Italian Philharmonic Orchestra (OFI), Ensemble Sentieri Selvaggi, Lugano Percussion Ensemble, Duo Transient Canvas, Ensemble Accroche Note, MDI ensemble, New Made Ensemble.
Giacomo Platini is a member of the Board of Directors of "La villa dei Compositori", an international project for the promotion and preservation of contemporary musical heritage. His pieces “4 souvenirs” for violin and piano were released on the CD “Soundmaps Extended Realities” by Oehms Classic, featuring violinist Zorina Valeria in a duo with pianist Evgeny Sinaiski. Recently, the piece “Come tira l'aria” for violin and six percussionists was released on the STRADIVARIUS label, performed by Szuhwa Wu on violin with the Lugano Percussion Ensemble.
In 2017, he was a member of the jury for the 8th edition of the prestigious ‘Concours International de Composition Henri Dutilleux’ and is regularly invited to give lectures and masterclasses at important music education institutions like the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, Centro Studi Acustica Informatica Musica – AGON in Milan, Italian Cultural Institute in Ljubljana, Slovenia (on the occasion of the ISCM WORLD MUSIC DAYS), Shanghai Conservatory (Electronic Music Week 2011), National University of Colombia in Bogotà, the Orquesta Sinfonica Municipal de Caracas (Venezuela), Fondazione Accademia di Musica di Pinerolo - Performance-oriented composition course, Salotto in Prova, Alba Composition Programme, and is a Professor of Composition at the Conservatoire de Musique du Pays de Montbéliard (France) and at the IUP - Université de Franche-Comté in Montbéliard, département PSM - Musique et Son pour Multimédia.
He studied composition with Ivan Fedele and graduated in the "Conservatoire de Musique in Strasbourg" and the Conservatorio "G. Verdi" in Como.
He refined his studies by attending courses and masterclasses with Gyorgy Ligeti, Niccolò Castiglioni, Betsy Jolas, Magnus Lindberg and Michael Jarrell.
Graduate in piano, he studied with Alexander Lonquich, Marian Mika and Lazar Berman.
He completed his musical training by attending orchestral conducting courses with Gustav Kuhn at the "I Pomeriggi Musicali Foundation" in Milan.
From 2025, his works will be published by Edizioni CURCI, Milan.
