Biography

Estra Duo was formed in 2020 following a meeting between Sofia Celenza, soprano and Aurora Orsini, guitarist. The duo blends the crystalline tones of the soprano voice with the warm timbres of the classical guitar, creating a refined and original expressive balance. Coming from different artistic backgrounds, the two artists share a mission to guide the audience on an immersive journey into chamber music through innovative and engaging performances.

Their development has been deeply influenced by encounters with leading figures in the music world. Under the guidance of guitarist Giampaolo Bandini, a member of the renowned Bandini-Chiacchiaretta Duo, they have honed their skills and developed a distinct artistic identity. Their curiosity and openness to experimentation have also led them to explore the repertoire of Brazilian music under the guidance of the celebrated guitarist Sergio Assad, further expanding and enriching their repertoire.

Throughout their career, Estra Duo has established significant collaborations with prestigious Italian institutions, including the Accademia Filarmonica Romana, the Istituzione Universitaria dei Concerti (IUC), the Roma Tre Orchestra, the Associazione Musicale Lucchese, the Accademia degli Sfaccendati, the International Guitar Festival “Valle d’Itria” and the International Music Festival of Portogruaro.

At the same time, the duo actively collaborates with contemporary composers, contributing to the promotion and dissemination of today’s repertoire. Among these is the English composer Stephen Goss, whose Welsh Folksongs they recorded in the Welsh language for their debut album.

The duo’s work has also been recognised in competitive contexts: among their most notable achievements are Second Prize at the “Giulio Rospigliosi” International Competition in Lamporecchio and the Special “Emerging Artist Award” at the AEMC International Competition.

Estra Duo stands out for its strong commitment to experimentation and hybrid arts. With a particular interest in the dialogue between folk tradition and classical music, the two musicians explore new modes of expression, transcending the conventional boundaries of the concert. Their repertoire, ranging from early music to 21st-century contemporary compositions, reflects a constant commitment to research, diversity and innovation.

2025 marks their first album release with Songs of the Land, published by the label Da Vinci Publishing.
